In large doses, practically anything may make you ill. And the boss had that in mind as well. I was given a restaurant assignment by my university. 

I was able to go to lessons and earn some more cash because of it. On the other side, the participating restaurant received a tax benefit for hiring students. A classic win-win scenario.

It was more of an updated fast food joint than a restaurant. Which didn't really matter. I couldn't eat there; I had to work in the kitchen. The owner was a sweating man who was now through his second heart attack recovery. 

But not a terrible man. not until I unintentionally made eye contact with his daughter. I had no idea it was his daughter because I had the impression the owner was a childless bachelor.

He couldn't evict me because he would have forfeited his tax break. So he asked me to chop onions. And to be honest, I was really irritated by it at first. My hands stank and my eyes were misty. But not enough to cave in. About a week later, I got used to it. 

My eyes stayed closed, and I figured out how to remove the stench off of my hands (rubbing them with a spoon, not joking). His kid adored the fact that I stood up to her father. Even several of the personnel supported my uprising.

Our agreement was reached just in time. Still, I would just chop the onions that were required. I remained silent for the remainder of the time and followed instructions.
